Rust-Oleum Love Project Parade

Have you used any of Rust-Oleums products to create something fabulous? Well, there's a party for that! You can show your LOVE for Rust-Oleum at anytime here. But today I wanted to make sure you have all seen the projects linked up and give you a chance to show off your Rust-Oleum projects!

Frogulicious Friday Feature

I am not quite organized enough to post anything about my progress with Change. I will tell you, that I have a plan for the year! (I know right!) I wrote down all of the things I would like to accomplish in 2012 and then broke them down in categories (ME, Kids, Business, & Crafts). It was soooo hard to pick and prioritize!! But I am keeping a running list of other things that I want to accomplish for next year's list. ANYWHO, after I did all that I broke everything in to months so that I have one thing to focus on for each category for each month. I am hopeful that this will help me keep on track, plus there is nothing that will last longer than a month so I won't get bored! I also think I organized everything in such a way, that it will help me grow my inventory and get me ready for ~~bee~~ craft season. SWEET!

Next week will be my official start date and all will be revealed...at least for the month of February. BUT I already know that 2012 is going to be an exciting year of CHANGE!

Every Thursday during the linky I add a little blurb (okay I just copy and paste from the previous week, which explains the exact same typos for months. HA) about my Rust-Oleum Love Project Parade Party. Have you all seen the projects linked up? OMGosh! Seriously there are some amazing projects!!!! I am so proud and thankful that you all are using my favorite paint, Rust-Oleum! If you all are using Rust-Oleum I would LOVE for you to link up your projects. Today, I want to share a Rust-Oleum Project with you all that I saw on one of the Rust-Oleum FB pages (They have 2, Paint Ideas and Rust-Oleum). You all are gonna be BLOWN AWAY!!I saw this mural and contacted the artist here is his reply...

I used to be a graffiti artist when i was growing up, i made works of art that were showcased in several magazines and locally acclaimed by fellow artists and newspaper publications. For years i wanted to paint a 911 Mural and i thought after 10 years it would be appropriate to give a Mural to the community and to the whole world via the internet. Asking for permission to paint something like this was not easy, i went through several dozen sources and the last person i called was kind and gracious enough to give me the space to paint the mural. The total cost of materials cost me approximately $70 worth of Spray paint. I chose Rustoleum because it never has left me dry- it is an excellent paint with a fantastic outdoor life and brilliant colors. All commercial jokes aside- many Aerosol art spray paints imported from Europe for the sole purpose of graffiti artists to use always leave me with fading paint and mixed quality- this mural in particular was important to me and i wanted to use an all American brand that would stand up to the elements. I wish more spray paint companies like Rustoleum would recognize its artists that spend their money and glorify their spraypaint. While painting the mural, several people approached me and asked if i was from New York. I told them i was from West Palm Beach! Everyone living in this country (not just New Yorkers) were affected by 911- even small towns. The city I live in has been devoid of much culture and pubic displays of art for some time now; and it felt so good again to finally give back to the community that we could all appreciate. While i was painting it, a post man came up and took a photo and shook my hand. It is unfortunate that it was through tragedy we all stand in solidarity, but now ten years later I like to hope we are wiser and stronger as a society.
I wrote REMEMBER 911 specifically because i wanted to REMEMEBR where we were that day and to REMEMBER it so that it never happens again. I chose black for the font to mourn for all the innocent civilians, the brave firemen and first responders, and lastly the victims of 911 all over the world. We lost our innocence that day but i hope we never lose the freedoms that makes us Americans.

Crazy Awesome, RIGHT! ALL AMERICAN ALL THE WAY. I seriously, love that this blog has brought me together with wickedly talented people like Eric and you! I never would have thought that my best friend, aka my favorite paint, aka Rust-Oleum would have brought me to a project like this! Anyway, with the elections and everything it seems like our nations is more divided than ever. I thought it was fitting for us to take moment to REMEMBER...to be UNITED...to pray...to think...to THANK.

StyroFoam Rudolph Toot (Tutorial)

Just in case you cannot tell this project is not finished yet

(poor planning on my part and LONG dry times)

All those little pots with Styrofoam balls on top are my version of

Santa and his eight tiny reindeer, complete with RUDOLPH.

See? And these are SUPER easy so I am going to tell you how to do these too...

You are going to need some clay pots, I bought 9 of the smalled ones I could find at JoAnn and then one of the bigger ones.

And painted them using Martha Stewart Metallics Specialty finishes from HomeDepot

While those were drying I got out my styrofoam balls

I used 9 2 inch balls and one BIG one that my husband bought me so I have not clue the size for Santa

I coated them all with this...

Then I painted everything to match the respective clay pot with my Martha Stewart Specialty finishes. I did not secure (or glue) the balls to the pots at all. I just placed them in there. I glued a teeny tiny sparkely red pom on as the nose. Then I grabbed my wire tools and some wire.

I cut about a foot of each color. (I would have used brown but the guage was not thick enough I did not think so I used black for the legs and gold for the antlers. Both are 20 gauge.) Then, I cut the gold antler wire into have. The black was cut into fourths.

THE LEGS: You are going to need a very special tool for the legs and making them is very technical.

Grab a pencil and wrap all 4 pieces around them to make coils. TOTALLY TECHNICAL, huh! HA!

Wrap it on...

Slide it off...

Pull it apart a little and shove it in to your ball. (So easy a caveman could do it!)

The antlers are just free form but I bent the wire and then

Pinched it tight. Shove it in the top and we are done again...

I think it is super cute!!!

Update 11/7/11

So this weekend was CRAZY! But in a good way! The bathroom went from this...

It is still a work in progress but it is finally getting some attention now. What are you thinking? Loving the color?? Plus guess what. Since we chose such a dark wall color it is kind of cave like in there and that needs to be fixed. SO, this presents the PERFECT opportunity for me to us

RUST-OLEUM CABINET TRANSFORMATIONS!

OMGAWD, I AM SOOOOOO EXCITED!

Hopefully, it will all be done next week. Then we cleaned up the front yard and put away all the Halloween decor because here at my house it is time to think about

CHRISTMAS!!!

I have some fab ideas for crafty decorations! Cannot wait to see if they all work out and share them with you.

Also, my sweet little munchkin face decided he was going to be a pole vaulter and jump out of his crib. UGH!! I had just started planning for this event on Friday. Guess I am a little late. DANG! So now, I am in emergency mode trying to get a room and furniture ready for him. He will eventually share a room with the Bear but we have to replace the floor, repaint, buy a bed and matching bedding, window treatments, and BABY PROOF the heck out of it. OMGOODNESS, seriously a ton of work and it all needs to be done ASAP. I have not even showed you all the room yet. Maybe I should before it completely changes again. UGH, wish me luck!!

I cheated on my best friend...

One Month To Win It:

WEEK ONE CHALLENGE

Sadly, I was cut from the first round. But if I had to be cut then I am glad I went out with this project because I think it is awesome! Here is the post I submitted for the challenge. We were only aloud to have 3 photos (but they could be collages) and a short description. If I had anything that I would do over it would be the description. I am pretty sure that everyone thought that I only glittered blasted the boots. Which was not the case. The cape started out as black satin...oh goodness, see for yourself...here is the evolution of the Krylon Glam-PIRE. AND PLEASE DO NOT THINK THAT THIS MEANS I AM JUMPING SHIP. I STILL THINK RUST-OLEUM IS THE BEST PAINT EVER! EVEN MORE SO AFTER THIS PROJECT but keep reading to find out why.

Krylon GLAM-Pire

A pair of boots from the past, with a little glitter blast

And a handmade cape blinged from toe to nape

Put it all together, this little number is on fire and

fabulously creates the one and only KRYLON GLAM-pire.

SO that is it, maybe the description did not do it justice or maybe it was lack of picture taking ability. Who knows. But here is my project in photos and little toot on how I made the cape.

The collar was the only part I sewed together. There are so many layers that I had to do it in sections and then sew those all together. I was going to "ruffle" them but evidently, when you have that many layer you cannot. OOPS! See, I told you all I did not know how to sew!! So, I had to think like MacGuyver (or MacGruber depending on how old you are) and decided the "burnt flower" look would make it ruffle a little and save me from hemming everything.

My husband bought me this because I went through 2 lighters in about an hour and had several burns.

I guess it is like a torch or something for your grill but ladies (and gentlemen) let me tell ya what this thing is SUPER AWESOME!!

Here is the cape after I sewed it all together (there are like 20 layers on the collar)

My son actually taped off the spider web for me. Everyone should get a teenager, having one is quite the experience. But he is artistic and did a fabulous job on this part for me.
THEN I went to spraying with Cherry Bomb Glitter Blast from Krylon (since Rust-Oleum does not have glitter paint, am I really cheating??)
I will say that I used 4 cans of Krylon Glitter Blast to get this kind of coverage. HOWEVER, 2 of those cans got stuck and would not stop spray even when I removed the nozzle. At $8-$9 a can for 5.75 oz. THAT IS A HUGE LOSS OF $$$ for a froggy on a budget! The first can did it as well but I was able to get it stopped. SO, I think had the spray worked properly I would have only needed 1 can.
This product is AMAZING but I would not recommend anyone buy it until they get that little glitch fixed because it is A TOTAL WASTE OF $$ for us crafters and a total money maker for the K paint. SO what I think should happen is this...
RUST-OLEUM NEEDS TO START LISTENING TO ME AND START MAKING PAINT FOR US CRAFTER...ESPECIALLY GLITTER SPRAY.
WHO'S WITH ME??

As for the boots, I just sprayed them with glitter blast Starry Night. AND YES, I hate to admit it but this can got stuck in the on position as well. SO far for this project I am out $25 because of a defective sprayer. UGH, do you all know how much crafting a mama could do with $25 dollars? OR I could buy a new pair of shoes (on sale of course). Had it all worked out properly this project would have cost me $16 for the paint and $6 for the material, since I had everything else on hand. An AWESOME costume for $22 really is a steal, right?!?!! Instead it cost almost $50 not such a steal any more and a total dent in my pocket book. (I am upset that the paint did not work...can you tell?) With that said these boots have become my daughters new fav and the glitter has stayed on nicely except on the toe.

And here is my little Glam-pire in here "outfit."
I had an old long-sleeve white tee so I added red and black lace to the neck line to make a collar that stood up a little, the princess requested it. (She is such a diva!) I did the same to the wrist on the sleeves. Then I added layers of ruffled lace to the center of the shirt to give it a little tuxedo feel.

Here are some more pics we took together and some she took of herself. She LOVED having the make-up but HATED the hair she said it was just too crazy. I thought she looked like a little run-way model (that has eaten a sandwich, HA!).
